Our 2015 J Russian River Valley Chardonnay is creamy and generous with aromas of golden apple, pineapple, tangerine and a hint of ginger. Made with nearly all free run juice, this chardonnay is bright and fruit forward with a broad lemon custard mid-palate. The oak is spice-driven and integrated, which complements the ripe fruit flavors and bright acidity.

Due to current state laws, this product cannot be shipped to Louisiana or Wyoming.

Viticulture Notes

The 2015 vintage was early, short and warm in the russian river valley. We had a lot of rainfall early on in december and january, filling our reserves and pushing up the growing season. Budbreak occurred in mid-march, and temperatures from march through may gradually increased, setting the table for the earliest harvest ever for j. In may, cooler temperatures slowed down growth and led to a long bloom period that lowered yields. These conditions coupled with constant coastal breezes provided an interesting combination of elements to produce concentrated fruit flavors and a crisp acidity.

Winemaking Notes

The grapes for this chardonnay were sourced from cool areas throughout the russian river valley growing region. We hand-harvested the grapes at 24 brix and pressed them gently using champagne press cycles. The must was 100% barrel fermented in 100% french oak, approximately 25% of which was new. Barrels contributed nuanced spice and toast notes, complementing but not overpowering the classic russian river fruit characteristics of apple, pear and citrus. Each vineyard, block and clone was kept separate until blending in may, for a total of 30 different lots available for blending decisions.

  • 91 POINTS - 2014 Russian River Valley Chardonnay

Lemon, lime and guava surround rounded acidity in this complex and layered white, fleshy and impressive in its approachability. This hows the ripe minerality of the appellation well, with just a wink of lushness on the finish.

This Chardonnay is rich in all the bells and whistles, such as aging on the lees in French oak barrels. The underlying fruit shows ripe, racy tropical flavors, as well as peach and pear notes that are deep and delicious."
