A CELEBRATION OF OUR 08 XLD RELEASE

On August 16th, we celebrated the release of our 2008 Extra Late Disgorged (XLD) with an intimate garden party that gathered together friends, family, media and a few of our longest-serving Club J members. The spectacular Russian River Valley late afternoon found guests mingling with our J winemaking and culinary teams and enjoying a selection of top J sparkling wines and Pinot Noir, each paired with delectable appetizer bites.

“With XLD, we’ve taken Russian River Valley sparkling wine to another echelon,” announced Winemaker Nicole Hitchcock as guests toasted to the long-awaited release. Spending more than 13 years aging on the lees, XLD reveals a new dimension of Russian River Valley sparkling wine. “We want to push the boundaries of what people expect from sparkling wines from this region,” said Nicole.

“We don’t celebrate age and maturity enough in sparkling wines here in California,” she continued. “XLD honors a different, more aged expression of Russian River Valley. It is a classic J sparkling, celebrating its golden years. It offers notes of honeycomb and baked fruits, but also has vibrant acidity and minerality that carries all the way through the palate. There’s a creaminess and richness that we really enjoy. My team and I are very proud to finally share XLD with you!”

For Club J members Anna and Dave, who’ve been part of the winery for more than 20 years, XLD is the latest highlight among the many they’ve had. “J is always pushing the quality. That’s why we’ve been members for so many years,” said Anna. “This wine is very special. It has such a soft finish on your palate, so smooth, while the yeast is a complement to the taste profile.”

For Dave, the XLD represents not only new heights for the J sparkling portfolio that first brought the couple into Club J, but also to Nicole’s entire tenure. “Nicole has exceeded all my expectations,” he said. “This bubbly is so, so good. They’ve taken good care of it over the years.”
