Our J Vineyards 2010 Vintage Brut opens with delightful aromas of almond blossom, green apple and baked apricot. The palate balances a creamy mouthfeel and pie crust flavors with clean, fruit-driven notes of Meyer lemon, Asian pear, orange peel and tangerine. This wine’s bright, heightened minerality shines through to the crisp, refreshing finish.

Vintage Comments

The 2010 growing season in the Russian River Valley was fairly challenging compared to the prior years. The season started with record‐breaking low temperatures in the spring, which led to a late bud break. May brought twenty days of rain, doubling the historic average. The summer season started cool, with plenty of fog and cloud cover, but a heat spike in September allowed the grapes to ripen beautifully. Yields were down, but the quality of the fruit proved to be excellent, imparting exceptional acidity and fruit flavors for our wines.

All of the grapes were hand-harvested into small quarter-ton bins and placed as whole clusters, without destemming, into our special French Coquard press for a gentle pressing. The juice was fermented in stainless steel, which allowed us to highlight aromatics, and kept separate until the final blending decision, which occurred in November 2010.

As is customary for methode traditionnelle sparkling wine production, the secondary fermentation occurred in the bottle. During the next five years, the wine was aged en tirage in our cellars, developing deeper complexity as the years went by. In early 2016, we carefully riddled the bottles to collect and remove the yeast sediment. Following disgorging, a dosage of barrel-aged reserve wine was added for balance. This wine aged an additional six months on the cork before release.
