A limited release wine, our 2014 Vintage Brut Rosé has rich, fruit-forward aromas of naval orange, watermelon and strawberry that blend with subtle notes of slivered almond. Rich and creamy on the bright palate and fine mousse, hints of raspberry, tangerine and Mount Rose apple intermingle with violet, peach and a kiss of white cherry before a crisp, zesty finish. Pair this stunning sparkler with orange-cured salmon with beets or a cheese pairing of pungent soft-rind cheese, like Camembert, with persimmons. 

Viticulture Notes

The year 2014 continued a three-year cycle of vintages characterized by warm, dry, excellent growing conditions. Described as the “year of the early,” 2014 saw early budbreak, early flowering, early veraison and early harvest. Ideal spring and summer weather, with a few well-timed heat spikes and cooling sessions, ushered in harvest at the end of July, the earliest in J history. During the long growing season, we were mindful to use irrigation only to keep the vines in balance and honor the integrity of the fruit. The result was beautiful, small- to medium-berry clusters that produced balanced wine with good acidity and ample fruit.


Grapes were hand-harvested into small quarter-ton bins and placed as whole clusters, without destemming, into our special French Coquard press for a gentle pressing. The juice was fermented in 100% stainless steel to highlight aromatics, then blended and cold-stabilized. The winemaking team bottled the wine in May of 2015.

As is customary for Traditional Method sparkling wine production, the secondary fermentation occurred in the bottle. During the next three and a half years, the wine was aged en tirage in our cool cellars, developing deeper complexity as the years went by. In late 2018, we carefully riddled the bottles to collect and remove the yeast sediment. Following disgorging, a dosage of barrel-aged reserve wine was added for balance. We aged the wine for an additional five months on the cork before release.
