A limited release wine, our 2013 Vintage Brut Rose opens with aromas of alpine strawberries, Mandarin orange and rhubarb, complemented by hints of minerality and toast. On the bright and refreshing palate, layered flavors of juicy raspberry, tangerine and white peach blend with hints of white floral blossom, lavender and slivered almonds. Focused and elegantly structured with a creamy mousse, pair this versatile wine with everything from brunch to dessert. Incredible with seafood dishes, pair this wine with cioppino or grilled lobster with Meyer lemon buerre blanc. It also pairs well with cheeses, like camembert with almonds and fresh honeycomb or brie with lavender-thyme salted marcona almonds.

Vintage Comments:

The year 2013 presented a stellar growing season and was the second in a series of vintages characterized by warm, dry and generally excellent conditions. A near-perfect flowering and fruit set in the spring ushered in a summer free of rain, followed by a balanced growing season that extended into the fall. Harvest was one of the earliest in J’s history and began in early August, when we began hand-harvesting whole grape clusters at night when they reached maturity. This beautiful vintage delivered wines of intensity and finesse.

Winemaking Notes:

All of the grapes were hand-harvested into small quarter-ton bins and placed as whole clusters, without destemming, into our special French Coquard press for a gentle pressing. The juice was fermented in 100% stainless steel to highlight aromatics and was then blended and cold-stabilized. The winemaking team bottled the wine in August of 2014.

As is customary for traditional method sparkling wine production, the secondary fermentation occurred in the bottle. During the next three years, the wine was aged en tirage in our cool cellars, developing deeper complexity as the years went by. In late 2017, we carefully riddled the bottles to collect and remove the yeast sediment. Following disgorging, a dosage of barrel-aged reserve wine was added for balance. We aged the wine for an additional five months on the cork before release.
