Our Russian River Pinot Gris exhibits aromatic notes of orange blossom, juicy white peach and lime peel. Ripe notes of golden apple, lime and pineapple span the palate, wrapped in a lovely creamy texture. The acidity is firm but balanced, working well with the ripe fruit flavors. The finish is crisp, making this wine a perfect match for herbed goat cheese with olives or lemon and rosemary roast chicken with tabbouleh salad.

The grapes for this Pinot Gris were sourced from cool areas throughout the Russian River Valley growing region, including our Cooper Vineyard next door to our winery. We hand-harvested whole grape clusters at 23.5 Brix, and then transferred them to our French Coquard press. Using a unique, gentle pressing technology, the Coquard minimizes the extraction of harsh components from the skins and seeds of the grapes. This wine is made from the free-run juice, fermented in stainless steel tanks, and chilled at 60°. Different from prior vintages, we concentrated on stirring tank lees weekly, as well as for 10% of the blend that was transferred to neutral French oak barrels. This technique enhanced mouthfeel and created creamy aromatics.

The 2015 vintage was early, short and warm in the Russian River Valley. We had a lot of rainfall early on in December and January, filling our reserves and pushing up the growing season. Budbreak occurred in mid-March, and temperatures from March through May gradually increased, setting the table for the earliest Harvest ever for J. In May, cooler temperatures slowed down growth and led to a long bloom period that lowered yields. These conditions coupled with constant coastal breezes provided an interesting combination of elements to produce concentrated fruit flavors with a balanced acidity in Pinot Gris.
