Our J California Pinot Gris delights with notes of candied pineapple, lemongrass, white peach and jasmine. This wine is fruit forward with ripe flavors of Anjou pear, yellow apple and lime. The palate is complex with notes of orange blossom and a sliver of minerality. A crisp acidity and layers of fruit flavors make this wine a great pairing for manchego cheese with a peach chutney, chilled melon gazpacho, or a J favorite of pineapple brown butter sauce over scallops.

Due to current state laws, this product cannot be shipped to Louisiana or Wyoming.

Vintage Comments

In 2016, the growing season in California was warm and dry. Following suit with the four previous vintages, this year continued to be an earlier, more compact growing season. This produced ripe, concentrated flavors with expressive floral notes in our Pinot Gris grapes. In 2016, we looked to Lodi, Clarksburg and the Russian River Valley to deliver complex layers of aroma, flavor and texture for a truly distinct California Pinot Gris.

Winemaking

Following hand-harvesting, we pressed whole clusters using gentle cycles to minimize extraction of harsh components from the skins and seeds. Wine from each appellation was divided into lots and fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks. To preserve the freshness of the fruit and floral aromas, the wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation. Following primary fermentation, we aged vineyard lots separately in stainless steel tanks until blending, allowing for the development of a range of distinctive aroma and flavor components that were ultimately blended to create a bright, layered wine.
