The 2014 vintage continued a three-year cycle of warm, dry, excellent growing conditions. Described as the “year of the early,” 2014 saw early budbreak, early flowering, early veraison and early harvest. Ideal spring and summer weather, with a few well-timed heat spikes and cooling sessions, ushered in harvest at the end of July, marking the earliest in J history. During the long growing season, we watered only when needed - mindful of the irrigation to keep the vines in balance and honor the integrity of the fruit. The result was beautiful, small-to-medium berry clusters that produced balanced wine with good acidity and ample fruit.
This wine is a vibrant blend of Pinot Gris grapes harvested from several vineyards throughout California. Our winemaking team hand–harvested whole grape clusters, then pressed gently using Champagne press cycles to minimize extraction of harsh components from the skins and seeds. Wine from each appellation was divided into multiple lots and exposed to a variety of yeasts, then cold fermented in stainless steel tanks at 55 degrees to preserve the freshness of the fruit. We employed no malolactic fermentation in this process. After fermentation, we aged the wine separately in stainless steel tanks until blending. This allowed the development of a range of ripe aromatics and flavor components that ultimately melded to create a layered, complex wine.

90 POINTS - 2014 California Pinot Gris
The 2014 shows bright notes of melon, peach and tropical fruits, with juicy acidity and exquisite balance. Pair it with everything from fish to chicken to spicy shrimp or even grilled brats. It also makes for a stunning aperitif."Wine Review Online, Robert Whitley, October 2015
91 POINTS - 2013 California Pinot Gris
The combination of pear, honey and stony minerality propped up by bracing acidity make it easy to see why it has found so many fans. This one will carry you well past summer and deep into fall. I'd even try it with creamy soups."Wine Review Online, Rich Cook, August 2014
91 POINTS - 2011 California Pinot Gris
Light yellow color; attractive, floral, lemony, pear and white peach aroma with hints of honeysuckle and lychee; medium body; slightly fleshy, stone fruit, kiwi, and lemon flavors with a slight hint of ginger and a crisp finish; lingering aftertaste. Showed some depth and complexity. Very highly recommended, first place."California Grapevine, Nicholas Ponomareff, August 2013
