2007 J Viognier, Hoot Owl Creek Vineyard
Return to Current Releases
The Vineyard
The 2007 J Viognier is made entirely of Viognier grapes from the Hoot Owl Creek Vineyard in Alexander Valley.
Processing
Whole grape clusters were hand-harvested at night and then pressed gently in J’s Coquard press. This uniquely gentle press minimizes the extraction of harsh components from the skins of the grapes.
Ageing
The free run juice was kept separate from the press during fermentation. A variety of yeast was used to tease different aromas from the aromatic juice. All of the juice was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh, unique aromas of this varietal. It was bottled shortly after fermentation to capture the fruit at its peak.
Tasting Notes
The 2007 Viognier displays J’s signature style: bright fresh fruit aromas of Meyer lemon and grapefruit along with pineapple and cantaloupe followed by dusty floral aroma of almond, orange blossom, all encased in light vanilla, hazelnut and honey. The heady aroma leads to a full, lush mouth of orange zest, tangerine, pear and a silky honey vanillin finish. This wine is no wallflower; it was kissed by the Sonoma sun and is as vibrant and outgoing as the people who made it. Cheers!
