Our vineyards are as intimate as our wines. Because perfect grapes demand perfect nutrients, we nourish our land using environmental practices with 100% sustainable farming. As stewards of the land, our deepest desire is to allow our wines to define themselves in our vineyards with as little interference from the winery as possible.
Sustainable Farming
An agricultural system that is environmentally sound, economically viable and socially responsible. It minimizes the use of chemicals, which are applied only absolutely necessary. While we are not certified organic, we make every effort to minimize our use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. One block in Nicole’s Vineyard is farmed organically without certification.
Night picking
We have continued the practice of picking grapes at night. This keeps our juice temperature as low as 45° to 55° F (a good 10 to 15 degrees lower than day picking), enhancing the fruit flavors.
¼ ton bins
Our vineyards are all hand harvested in small ¼ ton bins
Living with weeds
Another key part of farming sustainably is the use of cover crops. Cover crops do double and triple duty. They control erosion. They choke back weeds we don’t want. They control the vigor of the vine. They enrich our soils with nitrogen and other important nutrients.
VinoFarms
Our vineyard practices are carried out in conjunction with the vineyard management team contracted by VinoFarms, a leading vineyard management and development company with a very specialized crew.
