2002 J Zinfandel
Return to Wine Library
The Vineyards
The 2002 Zinfandel is a blend of grapes harvested from the selected
vineyards in the Chalk Hill and Dry Creek Valley appellations.
Processing
The fruit was hand-picked into half ton bins and then crushed into
small open-top fermenters. The wine was left to soak on the skins for six
days after fermentation; it was then pressed into barrels for malolactic fermentation
and aging.
Ageing
This wine aged in a combination of three-year-old French oak and
New American/ French oak combination barrels.
Tasting Notes
This vintage of "j" Zin displays light spice notes; white pepper,
cinnamon, black cherry and a hint of clove on the inital palate leads the
way to a medium-full mid palate brimming with red fruit flavors and hints
of smokiness. The wine has a long, spicy finish, with a nuance of tobacco.
