With grapes meticulously chosen from the best locations in California, J Pinot Gris offers an alluring bouquet of lemongrass, Kaffir lime and Asian pear plus tropical notes of pineapple and jasmine flowers. The complex, medium-bodied mouthfeel reveals crisp citrus and lemongrass, combined with the rich, ripe succulence of pineapple, green pear and jasmine. This intense and layered wine finishes dry with bright, mouthwatering acidity and distinct minerality. Ideal for everyday enjoyment or entertaining with friends, the versatile J California Pinot Gris pairs well with Asian Thai cuisine, tomato gazpacho or a simple goat cheese with rosemary crackers.
The 2014 vintage continued a three-year cycle of warm, dry, excellent growing conditions. Described as the “year of the early,” 2014 saw early budbreak, early flowering, early veraison and early harvest. Ideal spring and summer weather, with a few well-timed heat spikes and cooling sessions, ushered in harvest at the end of July, marking the earliest in J history. During the long growing season, we watered only when needed - mindful of the irrigation to keep the vines in balance and honor the integrity of the fruit. The result was beautiful, small-to-medium berry clusters that produced balanced wine with good acidity and ample fruit.
This wine is a vibrant blend of Pinot Gris grapes harvested from several vineyards throughout California. Our winemaking team hand–harvested whole grape clusters, then pressed gently using Champagne press cycles to minimize extraction of harsh components from the skins and seeds. Wine from each appellation was divided into multiple lots and exposed to a variety of yeasts, then cold fermented in stainless steel tanks at 55 degrees to preserve the freshness of the fruit. We employed no malolactic fermentation in this process. After fermentation, we aged the wine separately in stainless steel tanks until blending. This allowed the development of a range of ripe aromatics and flavor components that ultimately melded to create a layered, complex wine.

90 Point Robert Whitley for J 2011 California Pinot Gris
“The popularity of J pinot gris is now such that the winery must source grapes from throughout California, including spots well beyond its Russian River Valley base. Although production has grown, quality has remained remarkably high, and the J pinot gris is consistently among the finest made in California. This 2011 offers succulent aromas of stone fruit, pear and melon, with a lovely floral back note. Clean and crisp, it's great as an aperitif or with light appetizers or steamed shellfish. Rating: 90.”
