This wine truly represents some of the best California locations for Pinot Gris. Our Pinot Gris offers a delightful bouquet of pear, Meyer lemon and tropical/pineapple fruit. The lush mouthfeel bursts with flavors of ripe pear and sweet orange blossom honey, then finishes with a distinct minerality. A swath of lemon-lime on the palate highlights the fruit and acid.
A perfect sipper when entertaining with friends, this wine’s balanced acidity make it a great accompaniment to a variety of foods from traditional coconut Thai soup to pan seared sea scallops with avocado purée.
2013 presented a warm, dry, stellar growing season. Harvest arrived the earliest in J’s history, in the beginning of August, offering abundant grape clusters of extremely high quality. A near perfect flowering and fruit set in the spring ushered in a summer free of rain and a balanced growing season into the fall. Although some heat spikes rushed harvest a bit, the weather cooperated fully.
This wine is a vivacious blend of Pinot Gris grapes harvested from several vineyards throughout northern California. Our winemaking team hand–harvested whole grape clusters, then pressed gently to minimize extraction of harsh components from the skins and seeds. Wine from each appellation was divided into multiple lots and exposed to a variety of yeasts, then fermented and cooled slowly in stainless steel tanks at 55 degrees to preserve the freshness of the fruit. We employed no malolactic fermentation in this process.
After fermentation, we aged the wine separately in stainless steel tanks until blending. This allowed the development of a range of aromatic and flavor components that ultimately melded to create a layered, complex wine.

90 Point Robert Whitley for J 2011 California Pinot Gris
“The popularity of J pinot gris is now such that the winery must source grapes from throughout California, including spots well beyond its Russian River Valley base. Although production has grown, quality has remained remarkably high, and the J pinot gris is consistently among the finest made in California. This 2011 offers succulent aromas of stone fruit, pear and melon, with a lovely floral back note. Clean and crisp, it's great as an aperitif or with light appetizers or steamed shellfish. Rating: 90.”
